01 Quick answer: when grading makes sense
Grade it when all of these are true:
The card is a genuinely high-value Enchanted, Iconic, or headline chase — typically raw around $80 or more.
Centering looks even on both axes, corners are sharp, and there is no whitening, print line, or scratch visible under a bright light.
Recent sold comps for the slab at the grade you realistically expect clear the raw price, the grading fee, insured shipping both ways, and roughly 13% eBay/PayPal fees — with meaningful margin left over.
Leave it raw when any of these are true:
The card is bulk or a mid-tier Legendary under about $40-$50 raw.
There is visible edge whitening, corner wear, a print line, or a surface scratch. Graders will see it before you do.
The PSA 10 sold price is less than about 2x the raw price. That spread will not survive fees.
02 The math: run your specific card
Do not grade on vibes. The break-even is card-specific because raw prices, expected grade, and current slab comps all move. Add roughly $10-$25 for insured round-trip shipping. Express and Walk-Through tiers exist across all three graders and only make sense on high-value cards where holding cost outweighs the fee delta.
04 What graded Lorcana actually sells for
The honest way to answer "is this worth grading?" is to check what the slab you are considering is selling for right now. Use these segmented eBay searches — filter to Sold and last 90 days for a real number, not a wish price.
Only when the graded sold price for the grade you realistically expect clears the raw price, grading fee, insured round-trip shipping, and ~13% eBay/PayPal fees with room to spare. In practice that means high-end Enchanted and Iconic cards in genuine gem-mint condition. Raw cards below about $60-$80 rarely pencil out.
PSA or CGC for Disney Lorcana?
PSA 10 is the slab most eBay buyers actively search for on marquee Enchanteds, so it usually pulls the highest resale premium. CGC is typically cheaper and faster and still sells well on mid-tier chase and cold-foils. Pick PSA when the ceiling is high and you can wait; pick CGC when fees and turnaround matter.
Even cards that look flawless to the naked eye often come back a 9 rather than a 10 because of centering, faint edge whitening, or a print speck under a loupe. Do not assume a 10. Run the math on a 9 outcome as well — if only the 10 pays back the fee, the submission is a coin flip, not an investment.
How long does grading a Lorcana card take?
Turnaround varies by grader and service tier and changes throughout the year. CGC Standard is typically the quickest of the three on TCG submissions, PSA Value/Regular the slowest at busy periods, and BGS falls in between. Always check the grader's current posted TAT before you submit — do not rely on numbers from a blog post.
Which graded Lorcana cards sell best on eBay?
PSA 10 Enchanted and Iconic chase cards from every set have the deepest buyer pool. CGC 9.5/10 Pristine sells well on cold-foils and premium foils where the surface is famously hard to keep clean. BGS moves slower on Lorcana specifically but appeals to subgrade-focused collectors chasing Black Label.
